Man who died in River Severn fall named

Alan Hampstead Credit: West Mercia Police

Police have named the man who died after falling into the River Severn as Alan Hampstead.

The 52-year-old from Sansome Place, Worcester, fell from the bridge at South Quay on Sunday (15 October). His body was found by search and rescue teams later that day.

His partner Sarah Hampstead paid tribute to him, saying:

Alan was a loving, caring and kind man, a partner, father and grandfather. He loved his family and friends unconditionally and would do anything for them, and was completely loyal to them always.

His family will remember Alan as he was, he was cheeky, he was fiery, he was loving and he could be incredibly funny, and also incredibly stubborn and was set in his ways. He was passionate about his Cb radios, the Forest of Dean and wildlife. You had to really know Alan to understand the way he was and the way he saw the world around him, his view of it was not the norm.

I am devastated beyond words that this has happened to Alan. Alan touched a huge amount of people's lives and he really will be sorely missed, he never really understood how loved and liked he was, and how many peoples lives will be affected by this tragedy. Alan Hampstead is, was, and always will be my one and only true love and soulmate and my heart belongs to him forever, and I hope that now he is finally at peace and out of pain.
