Man dies following crash involving car and fire engine on busy road

A man has died after the car he was driving, a silver BMW, was involved in a crash with a fire engine on a busy road in Leicestershire.

It happened at 5am this morning (22 October) on the A563 Lubbesthorpe Way on the southbound carriageway in Narborough.

The driver of the BMW, a 26-year-old man, was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary where he died shortly afterwards.

His 26-year-old passenger was taken to the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire for treatment to injuries which are considered to be non-life threatening.

No one else was injured in the incident.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said:

The A563 was closed in both directions to allow for an investigation of the scene. A diversion remains in place from the McDonald’s roundabout to Everards roundabout and motorists are advised to seek an alternative route.
