Bull shot dead in the street

Police officers have shot dead a bullock that had been on a rampage through an area of Solihull.

One school was reportedly forced to go into 'lockdown' and pupils are understood to have been kept safe in the main hall.

Bullocks are young bulls that have been castrated and raised for meat purposes.

The animal was spotted in the town centre and reportedly entered Monkspath Junior and Infant School in Farmhouse Way, Shirley, before escaping.

Armed police were called to an area near the M42 at around 12.30 where they surrounded the bullock before shooting it dead.

Chief Inspector Kerry Blakeman from West Midlands Police said:

We made every effort this morning to try and bring this to a happy conclusion but we had to put the public first and sadly the bullock had to be shot by a police marksman. Thanks to all the local residents for their understanding.
