Two people were taken to hospital following a crash which closed a road overnight for more than an hour in Derbyshire.

Derby Roads Police Unit said a Ford Focus crashed into a parked van between the junctions of Sunny Grove and Acorn Way just after midnight on Nottingham Road in Chaddesden.

Police said on social media that the driver of the Focus was more than double the national drink-drive limit.

The passenger of the car was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and hit his head on the windscreen, police say.

The injuries of those taken to hospital are not thought to be life-threatening. Both vehicles were left severely damaged along with the driveway of a property.

The road re-opened just after 1am. A Derbyshire police spokesperson said:

Following the earlier traffic collision, Nottingham Road is now back open again. Many thanks for your patience whilst officers dealt with this multi-vehicle collision.
