Meet the homeless hounds in foster care over Christmas

People across Worcestershire are giving homeless hounds at Dogs Trust Evesham a temporary home this Christmas whilst they wait to be adopted.

The Dogs Trust’s 'Home From Home' scheme was piloted in 2015 in Evesham.

It finds foster homes for dogs that need time out from the rehoming centre, such as young puppies, older dogs and those who have lived in a home all their life.

Due to the success of the project, it has now been rolled out nationwide.

Foster carers Jo and Simon Kite live in Pershore with their teenage daughters and have fostered four dogs. Jo said:

Being a foster carer is so rewarding; seeing the change in the dog as they settle into a home environment and their little personalities shine through is amazing.

We love lavishing our attention on them and taking them into our home whilst they wait to be adopted.

We enjoy lots of walks around Croome Park so being a foster carer is also great for our fitness too!

This Christmas we're looking forward to celebrating the festivities with Bisto and spoiling him with lots of toys and tasty treats!

Sarah Galvin, Co-ordinator of the Home from Home fostering scheme at Dogs Trust Evesham, said:

Our foster scheme means some of the dogs who have found themselves in our care can continue to enjoy the home comforts which come as part of a loving family.

Our team of volunteer foster carers are amazing and allow us to look after even more dogs, every dog in foster care frees up a kennel for another dog in need.

Sarah says there are 20 active foster families who help to take in dogs in need, but she is always looking for more foster carers to call upon.
