Three people, a 19-year-old man, a 36-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life or to enable another to do so.

Officers do not believe anyone was injured during the incident.

The road remains closed between the junctions with Hucknall Road and Britannia Avenue while investigations continue.

Lorry driver Josh Cairns, 26, was walking to a betting shop with his dog when he saw the police cars.

He said:

To know it happened while most of us were sitting with our loved ones after our Boxing Day dinners is awful. I’d say it’s unheard of round here.

This could have ended a lot worse so it’s good no one was injured.

Glen Atkins, 72, saw the cordon when he went to collect his newspaper this morning.

He said:

I noticed this morning the blue flashing lights through my window. I got up and saw the road had been blocked off. I didn’t see what happened last night, but we never have police round here.

I’d like to say we live in a nice neighbourhood. [It] seems nowhere is safe anymore.
