A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman who was fatally stabbed in Worcestershire.

West Mercia Police said a woman who had suffered a knife injury was pronounced dead at the address in Bromsgrove at 12.12am on New Year's Day.

David Clark, of Cloverdale, Bromsgrove, has now been charged with the murder of the 44-year-old woman after officers were called to his property at 11.52pm on New Year's Eve.

The 49-year-old appeared at Worcester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday afternoon but did not enter a plea. Clark was remanded into custody and is due to appear at Worcester Crown Court on January 4.

The woman's next of kin have been informed and police would like to reassure people who might be concerned in the local area.

I understand that this incident is concerning for local people. I'd like to reassure them that we will have extra officers in the area over the coming days and if anyone has any concerns they can speak to one of these officers.
