West Mercia Police have launched an investigation after a woman in her fifties was found dead in a property in Hereford yesterday (Tuesday, 9 January).

Officers attended an address in Highmore Street at around 10.20pm where the woman was found. Her death is being treated as suspicious.

A post mortem is due to take place to ascertain the cause of death and her next of kin has been informed. No arrests have yet been made.

At around 5.55pm the same day, emergency services were called to Roman Road, Hereford following a collision involving a van and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The deceased woman and the pedestrian involved in the road traffic collision are known to one another.

Full forensic examinations of both areas are taking place and Roman Road (A4103) is currently closed at the crossroads with Three Elms Road and Kempton Avenue.

The enquiries are still at a very early stage but we are working to establish the circumstances of both incidents.

Police remain at Roman Road and Highmore Street and there will be increased patrols in the area whilst investigations continue. We are appealing to anyone in the community who has any information to come forward or speak with a local officer.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved, they are being supported by specially trained officers at this difficult time.
