Murder detectives have named a 38-year-old woman who was discovered with serious injuries and later died at her home in Wolverhampton..

West Midlands Police said officers were continuing to investigate the death of Sarbjit Kaur, who was found unconscious by family at the detached house in Rookery Lane on Friday February 16th.

She had been assaulted at the home, and was later proncounced at the scene.

A post-mortem examination was inconclusive and further tests are now set to be carried out.

Police said initial inquiries suggested some items had been taken from the home but Detective Chief Inspector Chris Mallett, leading the investigation, said he was keeping an open mind as to any possible motive.

Mrs Kaur was attacked inside her own home.

This is a shocking case, the likes of which are extremely rare, and we have a team of officers working on this murder inquiry to establish what happened and to finding the person or people responsible.

The motive so far is unclear and I'm keeping an open mind regards the circumstances... we are investigating several lines of inquiry including whether this was a random burglary or if the address or Mrs Kaur were deliberately targeted.

The interior was in an untidy state - which could indicate it had been searched - and we believe that some items are missing.

We are working with the family to understand exactly what items were taken.

– Detective Chief Inspector Chris Mallett, West Midlands Police

Police have carried out CCTV and house-to-house inquiries.

Officers also conducted an forensic examination of the scene, and are working with Ms Kaur's family to establish the her movements throughout the day.
