CCTV footage shows the moment a van was deliberately set on fire in Leicester.

Ryan Betts and wife, Alix, were watching TV in bed at their home in when neighbours banged on their front door alerting them to the fire at around 9.15pm on Monday (Feb 19).

Flames engulfed the panel of lights on the van’s rear, leading firefighters to believe it was due to an electrical fault.

But a neighbour’s CCTV captured images of a hooded man walking up to the vehicle and spraying it with a flammable liquid, before setting it alight and running off.

Ryan, who is self-employed has run Betts Glass and Glazing for two years. He said it was a scary moment for his whole family.

It was quite chilling to think that just a few minutes earlier someone had walked up and set fire to my van.

He sprayed a liquid over the bumper, set it on fire and ran off.

The fire was right under my five year old daughter India’s bedroom window.

We had to take our eight-year-old son Finlay out of school the next day because he was crying, he was so upset about what had happened. We’d had to get out of the house, it was quite scary for all of us.”

I had spent hundreds having sign writing on the van and I was quite proud to drive around in it, now it’s probably going to be written off.
