Dates with dogs scheme launched to tackle loneliness

A new scheme has launched in Leicestershire to tackle loneliness. Older people who find themselves isolated are being matched up with dogs and their owners on so called dog dates to stop them becoming lonely.

The first event of its kind in the country took place today in Melton Mowbray, which has recently voted the UK's most pet friendly town.

More than a million older people in England are chronically lonely and it's hoped schemes like this could bridge the gap between them and their communities.
