Derby is the second best place in the country to earn a living according to research by a credit rating company.

The research looked at salary, mortgage repayments, cost of living, unemployment levels and job growth. Derby was the only place in the East Midlands that ranked in the top 10 out of the 59 locations looked at.

According to Totally Money - the best place to earn a living is Crawley and the worst is Swansea.

The top 10 places to live according to the research are:

  • 1. Crawley
  • 2. Derby
  • 3. Southampton
  • 4. Edinburgh
  • 5. Gloucester
  • 6. Milton Keynes
  • 7. Reading
  • 8. Swindon
  • 9. Oxford
  • 10. Slough

Leicester and Nottingham were among the worst places to live, ranking at 46 and 52. While Coventry and Birmingham came in at 43 and 45.
