Police "open minded" over terror link to incident in Coventry

West Midlands Police say its keeping an open mind as to whether an incident in Coventry on Tuesday (24 April) is linked to terrorism.

The Army’s bomb disposal squad was called to Brookside Avenue, Whoberley, after police raided a house and detained a 20-year-old man under the Explosives Act.

The specialist team was summoned when officers found “suspicious items” in the house they raided.

The bomb disposal squad, comprising four personnel, was at the scene for several hours.

In response to whether it was terror-related, a spokesman for West Midlands Police said:

Enquiries continue to establish if the items at the property are suspicious.

We are keeping an open mind at this stage.

A cordon was placed around the property and some residents were also evacuated from nearby homes.
