Derby Labour Group have elected Lisa Eldret as their new group leader.

She was reelected to represent Darley ward, the seat she has held since 2014, last Thursday at the local elections.

She was unopposed and unanimously voted into the position at a group meeting on Tuesday night .

It is believed she is the first female leader of Derby's Labour group.

"I'm hugely proud that the Labour Group has put their trust in me to become leader.

"My first priority will be to reach out to the other Group leaders to start discussions about how we can work together in the best interests of Derby, given that no Party secured an outright majority in last weeks election.

"As a Labour Group we want to ensure that services that support some of the most vulnerable people in our city are protected, such as Children's Services, Early Help for children and families and social care."
