Murder investigation opened after man shot

A murder investigation has been opened after a man was shot in Birmingham last night (15 May).

It’s understood the man was in Stratford Place in Highgate, before 11pm when he was shot.

Ambulance staff reported treating a man in his 20s, near Belgrave Interchange, Balsall Heath with a gunshot wound his his chest.

He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead this morning.

A nearby resident, who doesn't want to be named told our reporter their account of what happened.

'Lots of people were having a BBQ, there was music, lots of noise. Then I heard a big bang and thought it was a loud exhaust. There was a lot of commotion after that'

We understand the victim was in or near Stratford Place last night when he was shot. The details are unclear at this early stage and I would appeal to anyone who was at the location and may have heard and seen anything to get in touch.
