Dashcam captures shocking near-miss with child cyclist

A firefighter has shared footage of the moment a child cycled out in front of his car on a busy road without looking.

Group Commander Robert Allen was travelling along the A38 near Bromsgrove when the young cyclist rode out into the road.

He managed to brake in time to avoid a collision.

He has shared the dashcam footage to try to make others aware of dangers on the roads.

I wasn’t sure whether to post the footage, but if it stops a child from being killed on the road it’s worthwhile.

It’s currently perfect summer holiday weather for kids to be enjoying being out an about on their bikes – but I shared this video to reinforce the messages about staying safe and being vigilant while cycling on main roads, and also wearing a cycling helmet.

– Group Commander Robert Allen, Hereford and Worcester Fire & Rescue Service

Hereford and Worcester Fire & Rescue Service put his ability to stop down to "a quick response, advanced driving skills, and the fact that he was driving below the speed limit".
