A lorry carrying £2 million worth of luxury cars crashed near Loughborough just after midnight on Sunday.

The vehicle was travelling along Loughborough Road in Burton on the Wolds, near Loughborough, when it went through a field and crashed into a wall and trees.

The smash involved Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Aston Martins. One of the supercars has reportedly been catapulted into a tree.

The driver suffered minor injuries, but the road remained closed for more than 10 hours.

It is understood one of the trees has fallen and blocked the road.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said:

We were called at 12.02am today to a report that a lorry had gone through a field and into a wall, causing significant damage to trees. There was quite a lot of diesel on the road, which was why the road remained closed for so long.
