A couple from Stockingford, Nuneaton, were horrified when a 7ft long boa constrictor snake dropped out of their attic.
They were completely unaware that the animal had been living underneath their roof until it dropped onto their landing when the loft hatch was open one day.
The Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary were contacted and they took the snake back to their sanctuary to care for it.
The animal is believed to be around 14-years-old and is thought to have survived on the occasional mouse.
Sanctuary founder, Geoff Grewcock, said: “It is a huge snake, quite heavy, and it was really cold.”
He added: "The snake was really hungry but is absolutely fine, it is a real beauty."
