Murder investigation launched after two 'linked' deaths

A murder investigation is underway after two men were found dead on streets in Stoke-on-Trent just minutes away from each other.

Police investigating believe the unexplained deaths may be linked but have said there is no ongoing risk to the public.

Officers were initially called to reports of a body found near allotments off Leonora Street at around 1.20pm on Thursday.

As officers made inquiries nearby, a second body was also discovered at an address in Barnfield Road at around 3.50pm.

Next-of-kin have been informed as both deaths appear to be linked and specially-trained officers are providing support at this difficult time. Staffordshire Police said:

Detective Chief Inspector Jason Everett, senior investigating officer, said: "We do not believe there is any ongoing threat or risk to any member of the public and we would ask for everyone to remain calm.

"We will maintain a scene at Barnfield Road overnight and neighbourhood officers are completing door-to-door inquiries to gather information and provide reassurance to the local community.
