The boy who collapsed and died during a rugby match yesterday was a pupil at the Haybridge High School and Sixth Form.

The fifteen-year-old was playing in a school friendly match against the Baxter College in Kidderminster yesterday afternoon.

Minutes' silence for schoolboy

A minutes' silence has taken place this morning at the school where a 15 year old boy collapsed and died on a rugby pitch yesterday afternoon. Baxter College in Kidderminster were hosting a friendly match against Haybridge High. A statement on the Baxter College website read:

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his friends and his school.

Ambulance Service say boy had stopped breathing

West Midlands Ambulance Service have confirmed that it was called to Baxter College, Habberley Road, Kidderminster at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon after reports of a teenage boy who had stopped breathing on a rugby field. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:

Crews arrived to find a boy who was not breathing and CPR was being carried out.

Ambulance crews took over resuscitation attempts and advanced life support was carried out at the scene.

The boy was transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital by air ambulance for further emergency treatment.

Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews and hospital staff, nothing could be done to save the boy and he passed away shortly after arriving at hospital.

Statement on school rugby death

A statement has been released by Haybridge High School and Sixth Form in Worcestershire following the death of a 15 year old schoolboy who collapsed during a rugby match. The statement from headteacher Caroline Hoddinott reads:

"As you know, as a school we have experienced a tragic loss. Our thoughts are with family and friends. Thank-you for all your support and prayers at this time. We would greatly appreciate it should you need to contact us today that you do so by email so that telephone messages are for emergencies only."
