M6 Toll Loss

The Chief Executive of Midland Expressway Limited said that it is not unusual for road concession companies to generate losses for many years.

And that like many businesses in the United Kingdom, the M6 Toll has been affected by ongoing "weak economic conditions".

"The fact remains that up to 40,000 customers choose to use the M6 Toll each day as it provides a reliable alternative to the M6, one of the UK's most congested motorways. "It is important to note that under accounting rules, non cash depreciation of the toll road as well as non cash financing costs need to be expensed. This results in accounting losses being recorded even though the M6 Toll is generating enough cash to fully cover all its commitments."

M6 Toll operator Midland Expressway Limited has confirmed that the road has made a £41 million loss in a year.

Opened in 2003, the Toll road, links junction 11a of the M6 near Cannock to Junction 3a at Coleshill in Warwickshire.
