A court has heard a Midlands mother on trial for murdering her two children in Spain had 'the time and means to kill herself' - if she had wanted to.

Lianne Smith, claims she had attempted suicide several times after suffocating her two young children with a plastic bag.

A police officer has described how a mother appeared 'calm and normal' after killing her two young children in a Spanish hotel room. Lianne Smith, has admitted suffocating her 11-month old son and five-year-old daughter after moving to Spain from Lichfield in 2007.

They fled to the country when her partner Martin Smith was accused of sexually abusing a young girl. Her defence are contesting double murder by saying she was not in a fit mental state at the time. Hannah Lomas sent this report from court in Girona in Spain.
