A dentist is facing jail today after being found guilty of the biggest ever fraud in the history of the health service.
Judge's comments on dental fraud
Dr. Joyce Trail, 50, has been found guilty along with her daughter Nyri Sterling,33, of conspiracy to defraud the NHS of £1.4 million.
She lived in a £1.2 million house while declaring an income of less than £50,000 a year to the Inland Revenue.
Judge Peter Carr said today
– Judge Peter CarrIn your case there is no other option than a substantial sentence of imprisonment, the only thing I need to decide is its length.
"You abused your position as a professional and you abused your position as a dentist. You have effectively stolen a large amount of money that was not available to an already overstretched health service."
Birmingham dentist found guilty of £1.4 million NHS fraud
Dr Joyce Trail has been found guilty of conspiracy to defraud the NHS out of £1.4 million, in what's believed to be the biggest ever fraud in the history of the health service.
it's after she submitted up to 5,000 bogus patient invoices when working from a dental practice in Birmingham.
Her sister Fiona Trail and daughter Nyri Sterling were also standing trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
Nyri Sterling was found guilty for conspiracy to defraud. Fiona Trail was found not guilty.
The dentist and her sister were also found not guilty on charges of perverting the course of justice.
