The government has announced that state loans are to be offered to elderly people facing big care bills so that they won't be forced to sell their homes.

The loans would be paid off when the home is sold after death.

The change is part of proposals aimed at tackling the growing problem of our ageing population.

But charities in the Midlands have criticised the failure to explain how any of these reforms can be funded.
