The driver of the car is being treated in hospital for serious head injuries after the crash between Stafford services and Junction 15 shortly after 4 o'clock this morning.
The Highways Agency have warned motorists to expect further two hour delays as the road is re-surfaced.
Long delays on M6 Northbound after lorry fire
The are long delays on the M6 Northbound in Staffordshire between Junction 14 and Junction 15 while repair work is carried out after a lorry fire.
There are tailbacks of around five miles and delays of around 90 minutes after the crash between a lorry and a car towing a caravan caused the lorry to burst into flames.
One man is in hospital with serious head injuries after the crash.
Resurfacing work to the damaged carriageway is expected to be ongoing until 4pm.

ROAD: M6 NORTHBOUND, STAFFORDSHIRE - UPDATE
Delays of one hour and 30 minutes, two lanes closed and queueing traffic for five miles due to earlier accident on M6 Northbound between J14 A5103 Eccleshall Road / A34 (Stafford North) and J15 A500 (Stoke-On-Trent).
Following lorry fire in the early hours, resurfacing work is required & could be ongoing until 4pm.
