A 34-year-old man had to be rescued after falling 15ft down a man hole following the theft of the metal cover.
Emergency services were called to the incident in the Black Country after 3.40am this morning.
The man was walking his dog on Dunsley Road in Wollaston, Stourbridge when he fell 15ft down the hole.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said:
“On arrival at the scene crews found a man who had fallen into a manhole. It was reported that the man was discovered after the dog he had been walking had returned home without its owner.
“Using specialist equipment the man was extricated from the hole and was treated at the scene for back pain. The man, believed to be in his 30’s, was fully immobilised before being conveyed to Russells Hall Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
