The body of 12-year-old Pierre Barnes from Grantham in Lincolnshire was found, days after he went missing after going on a bike ride in a storm while on holiday in France. A memorial is taking place today in memory of Pierre.

The funeral was held today for the 12-year-old boy from Lincolnshire who drowned while on a family holiday on a French island.

Pierre Barnes, from Grantham, vanished during a storm while cycling on Porquerolles. His body was found six-days-later.

The 12-year-old's mother is French and the service was held at the same church where he was baptised, in a village south of Paris.

The classmates of a boy from Lincolnshire who died on holiday in France will be offered counselling as they return to school.

12-year-old Pierre Barnes was on a half-term break with his parents in the South of France. He went missing during a storm on the island of Porquerolles whilst out for a bike ride. His body was found in water five days later.

Pupils returning to the King's School in Grantham today will be given access to counselling and silences will be held during assemblies.

Pierre Barnes, from Grantham in Lincolnshire, vanished after going for a bike ride on a French holiday island near Toulon. French police say a tag sewn into his rugby shirt he was wearing had his name on it.

French agencies report that body found is that of missing Brit

A French news agency reported that a boy's body was found by bathers in the water south of Porquerolles at around 5pm.

Toulon prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux told Agence France Presse (AFP): "The body matches that of the young boy who went missing on Saturday."

He said the physical appearance matched as well as the clothes.

The agency reported that the body was found by Langoustier bay to the south of the island, not far from where Pierre's bike was discovered.

Search for schoolboy lost in French storm scaled back

The search for a schoolboy from Lincolnshire who went missing during a storm in the south of France has been scaled back. 12-year-old Pierre Barnes vanished on Saturday after going for a bike ride on an island near Toulon.

French authorities have insisted inquiries will continue despite the scale back of the search.

Pierre's father Stephen Barnes, 57, said he believes his son is no longer alive.

"In truth, we are just hoping to find a body now.

"As soon as they do, they will alert us, but there is nothing else that, as a family, we can do now."

Reports: Search for Pierre Barnes called off

The search for a schoolboy who disappeared on a holiday island off the south of France during a severe storm has been called off according to reports.

12-year-old Pierre Barnes from Grantham vanished on Saturday after going for a bike ride on a holiday island, near Toulon on the Mediterranean coast.

Local volunteers have been helping in the search being carried out by police and rescue workers.
