A woman who lives close to the family whose eight-day-old baby died from a dog bite says "you couldn't wish to meet nicer people".

Police have named the baby who died after a dog bite in Shropshire yesterday as Harry Harper.

The family of Harry who died after being bitten by the family's Jack Russell have said they are "absolutely devastated" by the death of their son.

Police have named the baby who died after a dog bite in Shropshire yesterday as Harry Harper.

The family of the week-old baby who died after being bitten by the family's Jack Russell have said they are "absolutely devastated" by the death of their son.

Police and paramedics were called to a house on Woodside Road in Ketley around 8.00 am yesterday morning.

Harry was taken to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford but died soon after.

"As a family we are absolutely devastated by Harry's death and have no words to describe the loss we have suffered.

"At the present time we have no wish to speak publicly about yesterday's events and would ask that we are left in peace to grieve and begin to deal with our loss."

Baby died from Jack Russell attack

Police have said a baby boy who died in Shropshire yesterday was attacked by a Jack Russell.

Police and paramedics were called to a house on Woodside Road in Ketley around 8.00 am yesterday morning.

The baby was taken to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford by died soon after.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson said:

"Our investigation is ongoing but it appears that the baby died as a result of a dog bite. The dog in question was a family pet - a Jack Russell - and this animal has been put down.

"A post mortem will be taking place to establish the exact cause of this baby's death but at this stage it does appear to be a tragic accident."
