Council trains staff to drive 4x4 vehicles in snow

Nottingham County Council has been training its staff to drive 4x4s in severe weather conditions so that they can help deliver essential services in bad weather.

Ian Wheeler, Media Officer for the council says officials realised the need for training during the harsh winter two years ago to ensure essential services were still provided such as delivering meals to the elderly.

Nottinghamshire school closures

Yeoman Park School is closing early today, due to snow. The school will be closed to pupils and staff on Tuesday 15th January and will reopen on Wednesday 16th January.

Eastlands Junior School will be closed this afternoon due to the heavy snow fall and concerns about staff and pupils getting home.

Bracken Hill School will be closing at 1.00pm today due to access difficulties caused by the heavy snow. School transport and parents have been informed.

Snow has fallen across many parts of the Midlands today. In the East Midlands an amber warning has been put in place, which means there's risk of severe or hazardous weather conditions
