An 80-year-old woman has died after being knocked down in a hit & run in the Yardley area of Birmingham. A 26-year-old man has been arrested.

This is the scene of a fatal hit & run in Yardley in Birmingham in which an 80-year-old woman died.

She was hit near a pedestrian crossing on the junction of Yew Tree Lane and Coventry Road at 11:30am on Saturday 16 February.

She suffered multiple injuries which led to a cardiac arrest.

A 26-year-old man handed himself into police last night and is being question by officers.

Pensioner was in cardiac arrest after hit & run

West Midlands Ambulance service say the 80-year-old woman who was injured in a hit & run in Yardley yesterday (Saturday 16 February) suffered multiple injuries which lead to a cardiac arrest.

“The PTS crew had already commenced CPR when ambulance crews and the medic arrived. The team took over resuscitation efforts, administering advanced life support on the woman at the scene.

“Sadly, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead.

The 26-year-old attended a police station in Birmingham last night and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Investigating officers continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision, which happened on Coventry Rd at 11.30am on Saturday. Call 101.

An 80-year-old woman has died in a hit and run in Birmingham.

She was hit by a car on Coventry Road in the Yardley area of the city at 11:30am on Saturday 16 February.

The driver sped off and a car was found abandoned a few hours later.

The woman was taken to hospital but has since died of her injuries.

A 26-year-old man in in police custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police seize car after hit and run in Birmingham

Police hunting a hit and run driver who caused a pensioner to suffer very serious injuries have seized the car believed to be involved.

The 70-year old woman was hit this morning at around 11:30am on Coventry Road in Yardley. Inquiries led officers to the Olton area of Solihull where they found a damaged blue Vauxhall Astra.

Forensic experts are now examining the car.

We have seized a car which we believe the suspect was driving at the time – we are following up further leads in the hope of tracking him down.

The driver is understood to be an Asian or mixed-race male.
