A man has today admitted causing the death of an 80-year-old woman in a hit and run in Birmingham at the weekend.
Alice Lucas died when she was hit by a Vauxhall Astra as she crossed Coventry Road, in Yardley, on Saturday morning (February 16). The pensioner lived in Sheldon.
The driver failed to stop and a police hunt for the motorist was launched. Later on Saturday the car was found dumped in Olton, Solihull.
Nathaniel Teague attended a police station in Birmingham that night and was duly arrested on suspicion of causing Mrs Lucas’ death.
The 26-year-old was charged and appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning where he entered a guilty plea to all charges, including the following:
- Causing death by dangerous driving
- Aggravated vehicle taking
- Causing death by driving a vehicle without a licence
- Driving without insurance
- Failing to stop at the scene of an accident
- Failing to report an accident.
A fourth arrest has been made by police investigating the death of Kirkby-in-Ashfield man Colin Hall.
A 33-year-old local man was arrested in Kirkby-in-Ashfield at around 3pm yesterday.
He is currently being questioned at a local police station.
Police have until 9.15pm tonight to further question a 39-year-old man arrested on Friday, also in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
Two other men, arrested in Hucknall in connection with the inquiry last Tuesday, were released without charge the next day.
Mr Hall died following an attack at his home in Cornerpin Drive, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, on the evening of Sunday 10 February.
Yesterday, police searched former colliery land off Park Lane, Kirkby-in-Ashfield as part of the inquiry.
A man has been charged over the death of a pensioner who was attacked in his own home. Colin Hall, who was 76, died in hospital after the incident at Cornerpin Driver, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, near Mansfield. It is thought the attack happened as a result of a botched robbery.
Nottinghamshire Police have charged 39-year-old Scott Kennedy with manslaughter in connection with the death. Kennedy, of Hill View Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, is also charged with attempted robbery and a firearms offence.
A 33-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the death has been bailed pending further inquiries, a force spokeswoman said. Two other men arrested earlier as part of the investigation were released without charge last week.
