A mother and three children from Warwickshire had a lucky escape when their car engine cut out in a ford and water began to fill the car.

A father of three from Rugby says he 'feels like every day is Valentine's day' after his family had a narrow escape on Valentines day.

His wife's car stalled on a river ford barely a mile from their home, and was swept into the water. Luckily for all of them, two men had been diverted down the country lane by an accident on the motorway and rushed to the rescue.

Lucky escape from fast-flowing water for mother and three children

A woman from Warwickshire and her three children had a lucky escape after driving her car into a fast-flowing ford. The car's engine cut out and a wave of water soon began to fill up the inside.

Mariel Murphy and her family had only recently moved to the area, and weren't familiar with the depth of the water.

They were rescued by two passing workmen who dragged the family from the car through the boot before the Fire and Rescue services arrived.
