A quarter of a million extra school places are needed by next year to cope with a surge in demand - that's the warning tonight from the spending watchdog, the National Audit Office.
During a visit to Leicester's first free school today, the Education Secretary Michael Gove told ITV News that he believes such schools willl help to address the problem. Rajiv Popat reports.
Leicester's first ever Hindu school will officially open today.
The Krishna Avanti School is one of the Government's free schools, which means it's not run by the local authority.
It will be opened by the Education Secretary Michael Gove and city MP Keith Vaz.
