A grandfather who used to walk around with his hand on his face to prop his cheek up has spoken of his joy after more than a dozen operations have given him his smile back.

58-year-old John Smith has been unable to smile for eight years after he was left with a permanent frown after having surgery to remove a tumour from his ear.

He now says "the smile is back".
