Today is World Autism Day and an opportunity for families across the Midlands to share experiences and highlight the problems they face on a daily basis.
Autism and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders often make it difficult for those living with autism to manage with social interactions, verbal communication and repetitive behaviours.
Autism now affects around one in 88 children, with boys being nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism.
Lee and Donna Street from Walsall have two children with autism. It's meant both parents had to give up work to look after them.
They say although it's challenging, it's also very rewarding.
