Ali Jawaid's family pay tribute to a 'gentle-living family man'

The family of Ali Jawaid have paid tribute to him in a statement. They say:

"Ali was a law abiding hard working gentle living family man who has left behind a wife and two young children. He will be terribly missed by all who were lucky enough to have had their lives touched in some way by Ali.

"It does provide some comfort and closure that the offenders who committed this cowardly act of violence in order to steal have been brought to bear and prosecuted for their actions. However it is Ali's wife, children and the rest of his family and friends who have been left with the life sentence as we will have to continue each day knowing we will never see Ali again."

Police reaction to sentencing of mobile phone shop killing

Speaking after the sentencing of three men who's been convicted of manslaughter after the death of a businessman attacked as he delivered mobile phones to a shop in Coventry, West Midlands Police said:

"These convictions represent a significant dismantling of organised crime capacity and capability in Coventry. It's a major success in further protecting the public and our communities.

Three men sentenced for the death of a Coventry businessman

Three men have been sentenced over the death of a businessman who was attacked as he delivered mobile phones to a Coventry shop.

Ali Jawaid was hit with a metal bar outside Benzer Communications in November 2011.

His van containing phones and accessories worth at least £13,000 was stolen.

Mr Jawaid suffered a fractured skull and died six days later in hospital.

Greg Robertson, 24, Glenroy Blackstock, 25, and Shaun Mills, 27, have been sentenced to over 20 years in prison between them.

Three gang members are expected to be sentenced today after killing a businessman as he delivered mobile phones to a Coventry shop.

Ali Jawaid was ambushed outside Benzer Communications on November 9 2011, by the gang who made off with his van and its £13,000 cargo of phones and accessories.

The three men – 24-year-old Gregg Robertson, 25-year-old Glenroy Blackstock, and 27-year-old Shaun Mills – are being sentenced at the Warwickshire Justice Centre.
