West Midlands Police have confirmed that a fire at a store in Harborne High Street in Birmingham was arson. Early indications suggest that the store was broken into and stock was stolen before the fire was started.

Police confirm shoe shop fire was arson

West Midlands Police have confirmed that a fire at a store in Harborne was arson. Police were alerted to the fire at Stead & Simpson Shoe store on the High Street just after 6am.

The High Street was closed in both directions between Lordswood Road and Metchley Lane whilst emergency services tackled the blaze.

They were later reopened just before 3pm. Early indications suggest that the store was broken into and stock was stolen before the fire was started.

Detectives are now appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious between 4am and 6am this morning to contact Harborne CID on 101.

Fire put out in Harborne

A fire that broke out in a shop on Harborne High Street this morning is now out and firefighters are "scaling back" resources. Up to 50 firefighters were at the scene at the height of the blaze that starte at around 6am.

All of the two-storey, mid-terrace shoe shop has been affected by fire, including the roof. The fire appears to have started in a rear store room, but is now out."

Shops closed on Harborne High Street due to fire

Harborne High Street remains closed because of a building fire. It started at around 6am this morning.

Harborne Stores, which is directly opposite the blaze, have told ITV News Central they are have been told by Police not to open because of safety.

Fire closes Harborne High Street

Police have closed Harborne High Street in Birmingham between Lordswood Road and Metchley Lane because of a building fire at at shop.

Firefighters were called to Stead and Simpson at around 6am this morning to reports of a fire in a rear store room. Seven fire engines are at the scene.
