Philpott fire: one year on

It is the first anniversary of the death of six children in a house fire in Derby. Their parents and another man are all serving lengthy jail sentences for manslaughter.

Philpott children celebration day: timetable

1pm: Welcoming with Mickey and Mini Mouse.

1.15pm: The Mayor of Derby, Councillor Lisa Higginbottom, will officially open the event.

1.30pm: Six doves, one representing each of the children, will be released in their memory. A song, written by Derby resident Keira Gill, will be sung, followed by the recital of a poem.

1.45pm: A performance from a children's choir.

2pm: Magic show.

2.30pm: Performance by a singing and dancing troupe.

3pm: Dog show with a range of fun classes.

4pm: Fancy dress competition with prizes for different age groups.

6pm: Close.

Celebration marks anniversary of Philpott deaths

It is a year to the day that six children died in a house fire in Derby and a big event is being held today to celebrate the lives of the Philpott children.

Dwayne, Jade, John, Jack, Jesse and Jayden died from smoke inhalation after the blaze broke out in Victory Road in Allenton in the early hours of May 11th 2012.

Crowds of people are expected at Osmaston Park later.

The father of the children, Mick Philpott, their mother Mairead and Paul Moseley have all been jailed for their manslaughter.
