An RAF Typhoon jet has been scrambled to investigate an incident involving a Pakistani International Airlines plane in UK airspace. It is reported the flight has been diverted from Manchester to Stansted.
RAF Coningsby has been a key frontline station in the defence of the United Kingdom for over 70 years.
It's mission is: ‘To develop the future, deliver the present and commemorate the past of the Royal Air Force’s combat air power’
Its aircraft encompass almost 80 years of air warfighting capability: from the Lancaster, Dakota, Spitfires and Hurricanes of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, through the Tornado GR4, to the multi-role Typhoons of the Coningsby Wing squadrons which were deployed today.
RAF Coningsby is home to 3000 RAF personnel, civil servants and contractors who keep the station operational around the clock
