The £8,000 payment means he can return to England to prepare for his retrial at the appeal court. He was initially charged with murder, it was reduced to GBH leading to death.

A 25-year-old man from the Black Country is vowing to clear his name after being convicted of killing his girlfriend in Crete three years ago. Luke Walker has been given an eight-year suspended sentence.

He was initially charged with murdering Chelsea Hyndman, but that was downgraded to grievous bodily harm. He spoke exclusively to our reporter Rajiv Popat in Greece after the trial, and said he is the victim of a miscarriage of justice.

A 25-year-old man has been convicted of killing his girlfriend on the holiday island of Crete three years ago.

Luke Walker from Brierley Hill was found guilty of GBH leading to death after Chelsea Hyndman died on May 17, 2010.

He had been charged with and subsequently denied her murder but judges at his trial at Heraklion Mixed Criminal Court tonight accepted a motion from the public prosecutor to downgrade the murder charge after it was argued he did not intend to kill Miss Hyndman.
