Six people have been arrested in connection with the death of a man in Hereford.

Police are continuing to investigate at the house where a body was found yesterday.

A man, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police latest on Hereford murder investigation

“While a post mortem examination is yet to take place, I can now confirm that we are treating this incident as a murder inquiry.

“Ryelands Street was cordoned off last night so we could carry out our inquiries in and around the scene. I'd like to apologise to the local community for any disruption and inconvenience caused by the police activity.

“I’d also like to thank people for their co-operation and would appeal to anyone who knows anything at all about the incident, or who may have been in the area yesterday afternoon and saw or heard any suspicious activity, to contact us.”

Further arrests over Hereford murder

Five further arrests have been made in connection with the death of a man in Hereford.

Police were called to Ryelands Street on Saturday evening to reports of an assault. A man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were arrested on Saturday evening. Police have been given more time to question them on suspicion of murder.

Today, two men in their 20s were also arrested on suspicion of murder. Another man and woman were detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Six people in total - four men and two women - are being held in connection with the man’s death.

Police: Investigation at 'early stage'

Police investigating the death of a man in Hereford yesterday say their investigation is at an "early stage" and they do not know how the man died.

They were called to a property on Ryelands Street at 5.30pm, to reports of an assault.

“Our investigation is at an early stage and at this time we do not how the man died.

However, what I can say is that a man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at Hereford police station.

We are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the local area and Police Community Support Officers will also be on hand to provide reassurance to the community.
