Mark Carney talks economy in Nottingham speech

The Governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, has continued to speak about the economy, in his first speech in the role which is taking place in Nottingham.

He has told listeners that there is only a one in three chance of unemployment coming down quickly to the seven per cent threshold, set by the Bank of England.

He went on to say that the outlook for the world economy and our major export markets is looking a bit better.

The Governor stressed the need to get the banks fixed, to free up money to lend to people to start or grow businesses.

East Midlands business growth crucial to economy

Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England says businesses in the East Midlands are are the heart of the UK economic recovery.

Speaking at the East Midlands Conference centre he said:

It is great be in the East Midlands today to deliver my first speech as Governor of the Bank of England. With leaders in retail, manufacturing, engineering, logistics, information services, biosciences and education, Nottingham and the East Midlands are integral to the success of the UK economy. The businesses here will make good on the promise of recovery in our economy.
