Six men to be sentenced for 'offences connected to the sexual exploitation of a child'

Six men will be sentenced later today after pleading guilty to offences connected to the sexual exploitation of a child.

Leicester Crown Court previously heard that all six were aware, but ignored the fact that the girl was 16-years old and paid, or offered to pay her, for sexual activity. Three of the men originally pleaded guilty. Three others changed their not-guilty pleas to guilty during their trial.

The court heard the victim had voluntarily sold sexual services to friends to raise money because she wanted to leave home but had been exploited by the men because of her vulnerability.

One of those to be sentenced worked at a Leicester curry restaurant and lived in accommodation upstairs where he paid for the services of the girl.

A gang of around 40 Sikh men from Derby ransacked the restaurant and attacked staff because of what they claimed to be a lack of action by police investigating the case. Police say arrests were made within three days of the offences being reported.

An internal review carried out by the Leicestershire and Rutland Safeguarding Children Board found that proper processes were followed.
