If you were asked to name some famous gangsters you would probably say Chicago's Al Capone or London's Kray twins. But long before they were operating, there were Birmingham's Peaky Blinders.
They're the subject of a new drama series starting tonight on TV.
Actor Cillian Murphy plays Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby in a new six-part TV series which will start tonight.
The show Peaky Blinders is based on a gang in the Victorian period called the Brummagem Boys, local historian Carl Chinn said.
Set in the areas of Small Heath and Bordesley Green, the show was written by Birmingham born Steven Knight.
Tonight a new six part gangster series part-filmed and set in Birmingham will begin on TV.
Peaky Blinders, starring Cillian Murphy and Sam Neill is set in the lawless streets Birmingham in the late 1800s.
The show's creator Steven Knight grew up in Small Heath, and based the show on local gang the Brummagem Boys, local historian Carl Chinn said.
Some of the scenes used in the series were filmed at the Black Country Living Museum.
