Tonight a new six part gangster series part-filmed and set in Birmingham will start on TV. Peaky Blinders, starring Cillian Murphy and Sam Neill is set in a Birmingham that used to be ruled by Victorian gangs.

The show Peaky Blinders is based on a gang in the Victorian period called the Brummagem Boys, local historian Carl Chinn said.

Set in the areas of Small Heath and Bordesley Green, the show was written by Birmingham born Steven Knight.

The show's creator Steven Knight grew up in Small Heath, and based the show on local gang the Brummagem Boys, local historian Carl Chinn said.

Some of the scenes used in the series were filmed at the Black Country Living Museum.
