Local residents have left flowers at the scene of the murder of a 16-year-old boy named locally as Azim Azam who was stabbed to death yesterday morning on his way to college.

This afternoon police have said this is "a tragic case." They say the stabbing took place after two teenagers got off a bus at Yardley Green Road in Moseley this morning.

They believe the 16-year-old had recently enrolled at college and that two teenagers were arguing before the attack.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who saw anything to contact them.

A major police investigation is underway after a 16-year-old boy died after being stabbed.

It happened on Hayfield Road at the junction of Yardley Wood Road in Moseley just after 8:30 this morning.

It's thought he had just got off the number two bus - it's not known if he was attacked in the street or on the bus.

Motive unclear for Birmingham murder

Police say the motive for an attack on a 16-year-old boy this morning remains unclear, although their initial inquiries suggest it was a dispute between two youngsters, and not a random attack.

Police were called to Hayfield Road at the junction of Yardley Wood Road just after 8:30 this morning.

The boy was taken to hospital in a critical condition and later died of his injuries.
