War Horse opens in Birmingham

International stage hit War Horse officially opens its UK tour in Birmingham. Lead actor David Fleeshman, who plays Arthur, grew up in Kings Heath - but it is the first time he has played a theatre in his home city for 40 years.

Meet Joey - the mechanical star of War Horse

Critically-acclaimed National Theatre show War Horse has opened in Birmingham.

ITV News Central went along to meet the star of the show - mechanical puppet Joey the War Horse - as well as some of the cast and crew.

The show tells the story of a young man and his beloved horse Joey, who gets sold to the Cavalry to help fight in World War I.

It will run at the Birmingham Hippodrome until November 9.

War Horse stage show opens in Birmingham

International stage hit War Horse has officially opened its UK tour in Birmingham - and boasts some home-grown talent.

Actor David Fleeshman, who plays Arthur, grew up in Kings Heath - but it is the first time he has played a theatre in his home city for 40 years.

David trained at the Birmingham Theatre School and Birmingham REP, and is known for recurring parts in Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

He also had a supporting role in recent Channel 4 drama The Mill.
