Councillor says bus lane camera site is a 'problem'

Councillor Rob Pocock says there is a 'problem' at the site of a bus lane camera which caught 11,000 drivers in just 52 days. The camera is located on the southbound carriageway of Priory Queensway.

One of those who received a ticket for entering the bus lane was Ben Cheney. He says the signs were not clear.

Cllr Pocock has congratulated Mr Cheney for raising the issue with the council.

Traffic manager defends 11,000-ticketer bus lane camera

A bus lane camera in Birmingham has captured 11,000 drivers in just 52 days. The camera, which is located on the southbound carriageway of Priory Queensway, is set-up to catch people driving illegally in bus lanes or bus only streets.

Traffic Manager Kevin Hicks has defended the camera and says there are six signs up. He has been talking to our reporter Wesley Smith.

Man caught by bus camera says signs were not clear

A man who earned a ticket for entering a bus lane in Birmingham has found out more than 11,000 motorists have been snapped in 52 days by the same camera.

Ben Cheney was caught at Priory Queensway after a visit to Birmingham Children's Hospital, but he says the signs weren't clear and he is making a personal record of other drivers to show the council what is wrong.

The local council is charging fines of £60 for anyone caught using the bus lane.

It has been revealed that 11,000 drivers have been caught in just 52 days by one bus lane camera in Birmingham.

On average, nine people every hour have been caught and fined.

The numbers were revealed after an FOI request was put in by someone caught by the camera.
