Midland high streets enjoy festive shopping boost

Shoppers in the Midlands spend more time doing their Christmas shopping than anywhere else in the country, according to a report by NCP car parks. The study also found the number of people choosing the high street to do their shopping is up on 2009.

Top 10 cities where shoppers spend the longest time

Shoppers in Leicester spend longer than those in any other city in the country, according to a new study, averaging more than five and a half hours on the high street.

According to the report, Birmingham came third at just over four and a half hours, and Nottingham was fifth.

The Top 10 is as follows:

  • Leicester: 5 hrs 31 mins
  • Aberdeen: 4 hrs 52 mins
  • Birmingham: 4 hrs 36 mins
  • London: 4 hrs 35 mins
  • Nottingham: 4 hrs 31 mins
  • Leeds: 4 hrs 11 mins
  • Liverpool: 4 hrs 11 mins
  • Cardiff: 3 hrs 58 mins
  • Manchester: 3 hrs 56 mins
  • Brighton: 3 hrs 36 mins

High streets bounce back with festive shopping boost

Christmas shoppers are hitting the high streets more and more, with the number of people up three per cent compared to the height of the recession, according to a new report.

The study, by NCP car parks, found numbers were up on 2009 - and people are also spending longer doing their Christmas shopping as well - with people in Midland cities spending more time shopping than anywhere else in the country.

And Midland shoppers are more likely to brave the cold than most, with three cities in the region - Leicester, Birmingham and Nottingham - claiming spots in the Top Five for the longest amount of time spent shopping.
