Man found dead and woman critically injured at home

A man has been found dead and a woman has suffered life-threatening injuries at a house in Nottinghamshire.

A man and a woman involved in a fatal shooting in Nottinghamshire have been named locally as a long-term couple.

Police believe Paul White, aged 37, shot his partner Shani Cockerell, 33, before turning the gun on himself.

Two children - believed to have been the couple's - were in the house at the time of the shooting in the early hours of yesterday morning, but were not injured.

Mr White was declared dead at the scene while Ms Cockerell was seriously injured and was rushed to hospital.

She was today described as being in a serious but stable condition.

Neighbours have described the pair as having been together for a long time.

Police have confirmed they are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.

Police believe shotgun death man 'was the offender'

Police believe a Nottinghamshire man shot a woman at his home before turning the gun on himself, officers revealed today.

Detectives investigating the death of the 37-year-old man in Bircotes say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting.

Det Ch Insp Mel Bowden said they believe a 33-year-old woman, who lived with the man at the same address, was "the victim" in the incident.

She was found with shotgun injuries and was today in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

We are satisfied that the injured female was a victim in this incident.

Until a post mortem examination is carried out next week we will not be in a position to formally identify the deceased.

However, we believe he was the offender in this case and will not be looking for any further suspects.

Two children were also in the house at the time of the attack, which happened in the early hours of yesterday, but were not injured.

Shotgun believed to be weapon used in Bircotes death

Police believe a shotgun was used in a fatal attack at a Nottinghamshire home which left one man dead and a woman critically injured.

The 37-year-old man was found dead in the bedroom of a house in Galway Road, Bircotes, at around 12.50am, suffering suspected shotgun injuries.

A 33-year-old woman suffering similar injuries was also found at the address. She was rushed to hospital where her condition is described as serious but stable.

Two children were in the house at the time, but both were uninjured.

Forensic investigators have now arrived at a house in Bircotes where it is believed a shooting took place in the early hours of this morning.

Police say they will be carrying out a detailed inquiry throughout the day as they try to establish how one man died and a woman was left seriously injured.
