A judge has condemned a Birmingham thug for a vicious attack on 63-year-old man which has left him unable to communicate with his own family.
Kyle Smith, aged 21, from Britford Close in Maypole, Birmingham, was ordered to serve three years and one month behind bars after admitting causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The judge at Birmingham Crown Court described the attack as "a deliberate blow to a defenceless man causing ghastly consequences to the victim".
Det Cons Simon Rainbow said the attack in July had left the man with serious and ongoing injuries.

A man has been left with lasting brain injuries and continues to receive treatment he is still unable to communicate with his family due to the actions of Smith on that day in July.
